Creating shared value

At Alcoa, we are proud to play a vital role in Australia’s green energy future - transforming bauxite into alumina and then aluminium, a key metal in the transition to cleaner energy.

We’re equally committed to creating lasting value for all Australians - through innovation and education, forest regeneration, and by supporting the vibrant communities where we live and work.

In 2024, we delivered strong outcomes which helped set our people, partners, host communities and the environment up for success. We:

  • Rehabilitated 659 hectares of mined areas
  • Paid $931 million in employee wages and benefits
  • Paid $298 million in taxes and royalties to local, state and federal governments
  • Retained 71% of Alcoa Australia’s revenue in Australia via wages, local spending, taxes and royalties.

Alcoa Australia President Elsabe Muller said the company’s significant contribution to the nation was inspiring.

“These facts and figures reflect our deep commitment to sustainable development and shared prosperity for all Australians,” Elsabe said.

“We have approximately 4600 people working in Western Australian and Victoria to produce aluminium, a metal deeply integrated into our everyday lives and one that benefits everyone in some way.

“Our operations are a major driver of economic activity at the local, state and federal levels, and we know we make a positive difference in people’s lives across the country.”
