Alcoa Australia’s Community Involvement

At Alcoa, we want the communities near where we operate and where our employees live to thrive.

Since 1963, we have worked alongside community members to understand and manage potential impacts from our operations and provide social and financial benefits. We do this by engaging stakeholders in our decisions, investing in social initiatives, offering tours of our operations and facilitating employee giving and volunteering programs.

More detail about these activities can be viewed in the below:

We are committed to talking with, and listening to, the communities near where we operate and where our employees live. This helps us understand concerns and expectations, identify opportunities, minimise potential impacts from our operations and maximise benefits.

We see our approach to community engagement as a powerful vehicle for mutually beneficial solutions that balance our company’s strategic objectives with community needs and desires.

Our community engagement activities are broad and tailored to the needs of each community and stakeholder. Each of our operational locations has a dedicated community relations representative. To contact a location representative, please refer to the contact us page.

We are passionate about partnering with communities to help address local needs and aspirations.

Every year, we invest millions of dollars in financial and in-kind support in a wide variety of environmental, educational, health, safety and community capacity and resilience building initiatives.

We are proud to work alongside reputable non-profit and community organisations from large-scale projects through to grass roots ones.

From our earliest beginnings, we have opened our doors to give the public an insight into our environmental management practices along with the amazing technology that transforms the red rock-like mineral bauxite into light-weight, shining aluminium.

Tens of thousands of people, including many school children, have toured our Western Australian operations since formal tours started in 1978.

To find out how to book a tour for your school, contact us on (08) 95302400 or tourcentre@alcoa.com.

Our employees are active community members, dedicating thousands of volunteer hours every year to non-profit and community groups such as health organisations, environmental groups and sporting clubs.

Our Alcoa Volunteers program supports employees to take time out of their work schedule to help organisations and charities that are important to them and their communities.

Our Alcoa Community Together in Our Neighbourhood (ACTION) program goes even further by recognising our employees’ volunteering efforts with a $3000 grant to the group or charity of their choice.

Our employees are committed to making a difference in their local communities and do so by putting their hands in their own pockets.

Our successful employee payroll donation scheme PEACH – People at Alcoa Charity Help – helps tens of thousands of disadvantaged people, community groups and health care organisations in the regions where we operate.
