This year we’re celebrating 60 years of operations in Australia.

Our story began in 1963 when we pioneered the nation’s first integrated bauxite, alumina, and aluminium industry — opening our first bauxite mine near Jarrahdale in Western Australia, refining bauxite into alumina at our nearby Kwinana refinery, and smelting alumina to make aluminium in Point Henry, Victoria.

Over the years we’ve grown a business that proudly supports thousands of local jobs and contributes to communities close to our operations and beyond.

Best practice environmental management drives how we operate. Alcoa is the world’s lowest CO2 emitting alumina producer and our Australian business was the first mining company to receive recognition from the United Nations for rehabilitation excellence.

Our greatest asset is our people – from those with the vision to establish our company in Australia, to those who have helped build, maintain and improve it over the following decades.

Hear more about our journey so far and our exciting future from some of the people at the heart of our Australian business in the 60th anniversary videos to the right.
