Alcoa and Foodbank set to team up for another three-year partnership

Alcoa is thrilled to once again support Foodbank and the vital food relief they provide to thousands of families around Western Australia. Contributing $600,000 over a three-year period, Alcoa Australia’s sponsorship of the Foodbank Peel branch will provide families across Pinjarra, Serpentine-Jarrahdale, Harvey, Waroona, and Kwinana, with much needed support.

The latest partnership builds on the original, with an increase from $150,000 to $200,000 per year and will fund a brand-new Mobile Foodbank vehicle, enabling Foodbank WA to reach more remote and underserved communities. It also allows for a broader range of food products to be distributed, responding to the growing demand for food assistance in the region.

Since this partnership began in July 2022, through Alcoa’s support, the Foodbank Peel Branch has delivered over 2.6 million meals – nearly one million in the past year alone, marking a 53% increase. The social return on investment has been staggering, with $2.55 million in value generated through expanded services, improved infrastructure, and innovative delivery models.

President Alcoa Australia, Elsabe Muller said she was proud to see the support to Foodbank extended through another partnership.

“Alcoa Australia is delighted to support Foodbank and the vital services they deliver for another three years. In the last year, Foodbank delivered more than 9 million meals to those in the WA community who may have otherwise gone without – a truly impressive achievement.

“Through our partnership, we have seen firsthand the positive impact the Foodbank Peel branch plays in supporting the most vulnerable in our communities with access to healthy food. With many of our employees living and working in Peel and the upper South West, we’re incredibly proud to once again stand alongside Foodbank.”

Previous funding by Alcoa has seen the distribution of over 3,000 emergency hampers to 20 of Foodbank’s agency partners and supported the purchase of essential equipment including forklifts and refrigeration units – ensuring better access to fresh and frozen goods. Alcoa employees have also rolled up their sleeves, volunteering in the Perth warehouse and Mobile Foodbank, packing over 3,000 meals and hampers in a single day.

CEO Foodbank WA, Kate O’Hara has said the partnership is a shining example of what can be achieved when business and community unite with purpose.

“Alcoa’s support has been nothing short of transformative. Their funding has helped us respond to rising food insecurity, expand our operational capacity, and pilot new service models that are now being adopted across other regional branches. During this cost-of-living crisis, their partnership is more vital than ever.”
