Alcoa employee volunteers spring into ACTION for Halo Team
Alcoa volunteers put their do-it-yourself skills to work recently, painting and gardening the new Mandurah Halo Team Inc premises as part of the Company’s Alcoans Coming Together in Our Neighbourhoods (ACTION) Program.
Alcoa’s ACTION Program encourages employees to volunteer in their local communities by donating $3,000 to chosen charities in recognition of those volunteering efforts.
Halo Team is a local not-for-profit organisation that runs the Halo Homeless Shelter, Halo Free Soup Kitchen, Halo Welfare Assistance Office, Halo Outreach Service and Halo Community Op Shop. All services are funded by donations from the community and local businesses.
Alcoa employees participated by painting internal walls; building flat pack furniture; ripping up tired garden beds and planting new trees and shrubs.
Halo Team representative, Tanya Swayn, praised the efforts of the Alcoa volunteers and the positive impact of the $3,000 grant.
“We would like to thank the Alcoa volunteers for giving us a hand and for the generous funds that were provided,” Tanya said.
“The funds have been used to create a designated area for our new community centre. Our aim is to run our community programs from this space while encouraging social inclusion in a diverse setting.”
To help Halo Team feel more at home in the new premise, a donation of office equipment was also provided from the Alcoa Tour Centre in Pinjarra.
The program is this year set to inject more than 2,000 volunteer hours and $200,000 into communities close to where Alcoa operates in Australia.
Alcoa has a proud history of helping build stronger sustainable communities. In 2018, the company made about $4 million in community contributions and its employees volunteered for more than 2,500 hours to help at about 100 different community activities.
