Twenty-four young men and women were the toast of the town last week as celebrations were held to acknowledge their successful graduation from Alcoa of Australia’s four-year apprenticeship program.

Family members, peers and mentors proudly shared the moment with the newly qualified tradespeople. Each were awarded trade certificates qualifying them for a range of careers including heavy duty mechanics, mechanical fabricators, electrical and instrumentation technicians and mechanical fitters.

Alcoa Safety Award winner Lisa Rose completed a pre-apprenticeship and work experience before commencing at Alcoa.

“I would recommend an Alcoa apprenticeship to anyone thinking about a trade. They have provided me with good experience for my trade, a large amount of training and benefits, such as advanced safety training, along the way,” Lisa said.

Alcoa’s Apprentice Coordinator Kevin Lunn has supervised the apprenticeship program for 10 years and encouraged this year’s graduates to use all their learnings to not only be successful tradespeople but to make a difference in future workplaces.

“We have not only prepared you for your careers as tradespeople, but by training you within a culture underpinned by the highest commitment to safety you should always operate with excellence and bring positive change to workplaces where standards might not be as they are at Alcoa,” Kevin said.

Alcoa has trained apprentices for more than 50 years, providing on-the-job training in an exciting, complex and safety focused environment. The company’s reputation for outstanding training and safety sees the apprentice recruitment campaign attract well over a thousand applications each year from around Australia.
