Alcoa’s Western Australian operations receive Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Certification

Alcoa’s Western Australian mining and refining operations have received certification from the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI), a global sustainability certification program for the aluminium industry.

Certification of the Huntly and Willowdale bauxite mines, and Kwinana, Pinjarra and Wagerup alumina refineries followed a third-party audit to verify responsible production, sourcing and stewardship in December 2019. Aust_Sustainability_seedling_2

Vice President Operations Australia Michael Gollschewski said the recognition was testament to Alcoa’s ongoing commitment to sustainable operations.

“We have a proud history of operation in Western Australia that we hope to continue by delivering strong economic, social and environmental outcomes for our stakeholders,” Mr Gollschewski said.

“I commend our employees for their commitment to working in a responsible manner which has helped enable this certification.”

Alcoa now has nine locations in Australia, Brazil, Spain and Canada certified against ASI’s Performance Standard. The global sustainability certification program represents both upstream producers and downstream manufacturers who use aluminium in their products.

Alcoa was also named the Aluminum Industry Leader in the latest edition of the Dow Jones Sustainable Indices (DJSI).
