Earth Day 2026: Our Power, Our Planet

Alcoa highlights the role of renewable electricity in its smelting operations as part of its approach to reducing emissions and operating responsibly.

On Earth Day 2026, Alcoa joins the global conversation around this year’s theme, Our Power, Our Planet, which highlights the role that energy choices play in shaping environmental outcomes.

For Alcoa, this connection is directly linked to how the company powers its operations.

Electricity is one of the most significant inputs in aluminum production. As a result, the composition of Alcoa’s energy mix is a key factor in managing operational emissions and supporting more efficient production.

In 2025, approximately 86% of the electricity used in Alcoa’s smelters came from renewable sources, primarily hydroelectric power.

This reflects the most recent data published in Alcoa’s Sustainability Report released in May 2025, which reports on 2024 performance. Year-to-year variation can occur based on factors such as production levels, regional grid conditions, and the availability of renewable generation.

Utilizing renewable or low-carbon energy is one of the practical ways Alcoa is working to lower the carbon footprint of its operations while maintaining reliable performance across its global system. In addition, the company continues to focus on improving energy efficiency and strengthening how energy is managed and used across its operations as part of its broader Climate & Energy Efficiency priority.

As the company marks Earth Day, it continues to focus on advancing solutions that support a lower-carbon future, grounded in data, operational discipline and how it powers its operations every day.
