Today, all of Alcoa’s production facilities remain in operation. We are following guidance from all relevant government agencies in the countries where we operate, focusing exclusively on activities that directly support our essential bauxite mining, alumina refining, and aluminum smelting, casting and rolling activities.
We know the importance of our production to the world’s economy. That’s why we are taking every precaution to make sure our employees and contractors remain safe in the workplace. We will continue to protect our sites from the controllable risks created by the COVID-19 outbreak, by increasing the use of disinfecting protocols, social distancing, and other tactics recommended by the World Health Organization and other country-specific public health guidelines.
Also, we are adjusting shift schedules and other work patterns to create separation for the workforce and ensuring redundancy for critical resources. Employees who can work remotely are doing so, and we’ve extended our global travel ban on all non-essential travel through the month of April.
We continue to communicate directly with our employees, contractors, customers, suppliers and communities.
We continue to closely monitor the dynamic situation related to COVID-19 while keeping our primary focus on the safety and health of people.
