Aluminerie de Bécanour (ABI) Announces New Collective Bargaining Agreement

Today, Aluminerie de Becancour (ABI) announced the ratification of a new five-year collective bargaining agreement with the United Steelworkers Local 9700.
This agreement represents an important milestone for ABI and the Mauricie and Centre-du-Québec region.
It provides a solid framework for both operational stability and workforce continuity while supporting ABI’s ongoing role as a major employer and contributor to the regional economy.
“This agreement reflects the commitment and efforts of both parties to reach a mutually acceptable outcome that supports the long-term operation of Aluminerie de Bécancour and the employees who work here,” said Christian Fortin, President and CEO of ABI. “ABI has benefited from significant investments in recent years that have strengthened the facility and its competitiveness within Alcoa’s portfolio. Working together to maintain a stable operating environment supports our long-term performance and aligns with Alcoa’s Vision to Build a Legacy of Excellence for Future Generations.”
The new five-year agreement covers approximately 1,000 active employees at the plant. The prior agreement expired in July 2025, and the parties agreed to continue operating under its terms until the outcome of the ratification vote by union members.
