Alcoa Australia Invites Graduates to Shape Their Future

As the University graduates looking to build longterm careers in the mining, refining and smelting sectors are encouraged to apply for Alcoa Australia’s 2027 Graduate Program, with 18 vacancies across 12 disciplines ready to be filled.

The program offers opportunities at Alcoa’s bauxite mines and alumina refineries in the Peel and Upper South West regions of WA, as well as at the company’s Australian headquarters in Perth and the Portland Aluminium Smelter in Victoria.

Graduates can pursue careers across a diverse range of technical and non-technical positions including mechanical, electrical, chemical, mining and infrastructure engineering, information systems, occupational hygiene, procurement, environment and health and safety.

The threeyear, fulltime program provides permanent employment and structured rotations designed to build technical capability, business understanding, and professional confidence.

Remi Hart, former graduate and now Robotics Engineer at Alcoa’s Wagerup refinery, explains his work experience.

“The Graduate Program is a permanent, full-time role. You typically spend six months in one area, then move to a different site to gain new experience. I was able to shadow operators to better understand their perspective while deepening my technical expertise,” Remi said.

“I’ve had the flexibility to pursue my interest, particularly in robotics and mechanical systems. I’ve managed projects, development concepts and gained full end-to-end experience through the program.”

Pinjarra graduate Geotechnical Engineer Kelly Pillay said it has been invaluable to gain experience across different disciplines.

“As someone new to the business, it's been a great learning experience being exposed to different disciplines,” Kelly said.

“I’ve worked alongside geotechnical and civil engineers and interfaced with mechanical infrastructure teams.  The program exposes you to areas you don’t necessarily learn at university. It makes you more adaptable and well-rounded as an engineer.”

A key benefit of working at Alcoa is the ability to return home each day, rather than work fly-in-fly-out rosters, thanks to operations located close to Perth and major population centres in the Peel and South West regions.

The Graduate program builds on Alcoa’s longstanding commitment to workforce development. Over its 62years, Alcoa has supported the development of 2,739 apprentices, trainees and graduates across Australia.

Alcoa is also a recognised leader in workplace inclusion, having been named an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality for more than 23 years, and acknowledged by Pride in Diversity as a Silver Tier Employer in the Australian Workplace Equality Index for LGBTI+ inclusion.

Applications close on 29 March 2026 with the program starting in January 2027.
