Alcoa volunteers help protect, restore Pittsburgh riverfront trail
Alcoa employees volunteered through 'Friends of the Riverfront' to protect and restore the Three Rivers Heritage Trail by cleaning the area
Several Alcoa employees recently spent a few hours of their day cleaning up a trail near the company’s headquarters in Pittsburgh.
On July 18, the local nonprofit “Friends of the Riverfront” invited Alcoans to help protect and restore the Three Rivers Heritage Trail by cleaning the area of litter and overgrown vegetation.
Over the course of three hours, volunteers traveled along the trail’s North Shore section, focusing on a few areas:
- Litter and trash cleanup;
- Vegetation management;
- Graffiti removal; and
- Trail maintenance issues.
Friends of the Riverfront estimates that with the help of about a dozen Alcoa volunteers, they cleared out and loaded about five tons of litter and vegetation from the trail. Alcoa also pledged a $1,000 donation to the organization.
