Alcoa named among top employers in Brazil for second consecutive year

Alcoa Alumínio, Alcoa’s Brazilian subsidiary, earned a Top Employer certification in Brazil for the second year in a row for its excellence in human resources practices.

Alcoa Alumínio is one of 70 companies certified in Brazil this year by the Top Employers Institute, which is considered a global authority on excellence in people strategies and practices. The Top Employers Institute certifies companies based on their policies and practices in 20 areas, including people strategy, work environment, talent acquisition, learning, inclusion, diversity and equity, general well-being and more.

"This achievement reflects the consistency of our actions, which follow global standards of excellence, and also reinforces our intentional and unwavering commitment to taking care of our people,” said André Rolim, Director of HR in Brazil. “We are committed to really making a difference and this certification ensures that we are on the right track.”

Alcoa Alumínio's certification is underpinned by numerous activities, including its career acceleration programs for different underrepresented groups, which trained 68 people in 2023. Rolim said one of the company's strategies for making further progress in diversity and inclusion is to establish hiring targets linked to strategic positions. For example, while 34 percent of leadership positions are held by women now, the goal is to reach 50 percent by 2030.

Alcoa also prioritizes hiring regional talent in the Brazilian states where it operates (Pará, Maranhão and Minas Gerais), including in its entry programs. Last year, among the hires made through these programs, 75 percent were from the North and Northeast regions of the country, 59 percent were women, 66 percent were black and brown people, 15 percent were LGBTQ+ and 6 percent were people with disabilities.

The Top Employer-certified companies were first announced January 18 in a virtual event. The awards ceremony was held on February 22 in São Paulo.
