Alcoa Foundation boosts protection of Western Australia’s unique and vulnerable wildlife

With a goal to contribute to programs that protect and preserve the environment while also promoting equitable access to education and skills-building, the Alcoa Foundation recently announced a commitment to protect some of the world’s most unique and vulnerable wildlife. 

Over the next three years, the Alcoa Foundation will invest approximately AUD1 million in bolstering and improving the protection of up to 14 vulnerable native species in Western Australia’s northern jarrah forest.

The funding for the Western Shield wildlife recovery program will help better manage and control the very real threat feral predators, namely the fox and feral cat, pose to some of Western Australia’s unique native species including the numbat, woylie, chuditch and quokka.

Alcoa Australia has supported Western Shield since its inception 25 years ago. The Alcoa Foundation grant is independent of and in addition to that long-running support.
