Alcoa Endorses ICMM Commitment to Advance IDE

At Alcoa, we value diverse perspectives. This diversity is not only a competitive advantage but also a fundamental component of our Values. Hence, we welcome the International Council on Mining and Metals’ (ICMM) facilitation of a new collective commitment to address inclusion, diversity and equity (IDE) challenges in the mining and metals industry.

To improve the experience of all workers and eradicate discrimination, harassment and assault in the workplace, all ICMM members commit to taking the following four actions by the end of 2024:

  • Accelerate action to eliminate harmful behaviors from our workplaces and communities.
  • Set goals to eliminate all forms of harassment and discriminatory behaviors.
  • Increase transparency by disclosing IDE performance data.
  • Collaborate with other members and stakeholders to advocate for and find solutions.

Alcoa is no stranger to IDE. We have made significant headway over the last few years. We have steadily increased the number of hires from underrepresented groups, including women. In 2022, this number exceeded our internal target of 33 percent of underrepresented hires. The overall representation of females in our business is up by 18.48 percent, which is above industry average. Notably, four out of eight Alcoa Executive Team positions are currently held by women.

To continue making progress on our IDE goals, we launched our Everyone Culture Framework and our Global IDE Policy in 2022. Both instruments advance our mission to create an inclusive workplace that is safe, tolerant and free from any form of harassment, bullying and offensive or disrespectful conduct.

ICMM’s call to collective action complements our efforts to increase awareness of IDE issues and supports our aspiration to have an “everyone culture.” We look forward to working with other members to eliminate inequalities and foster supportive workplaces within the industry.
