Day 4: More Snow and Smiles All Around

By Simon Bilsbury

Hey everybody, Simon Bilsbury here from Pinjarra refinery in Western Australia. I’m currently over in Andorra on an Earthwatch expedition studying the effects of climate change in the Pyrenees mountains.

We started the day by spending time on our presentations to pitch our ideas for our action plans that we will be implementing when we get back to our places of work.

Here is a picture of myself presenting my ideas for my action plan.

At around 11 a.m., we got ready to go out in the field to assist the scientists with some research, collecting data and changing the batteries in the motion-activated cameras.

One of the tasks for the day was to dig up tea bags that had been put into the ground in July so that we can record the amount of decomposition on the different tea bags.

This is a photo of me digging up teabags.

The day was made extra special with the appearance of snow, some of the other fellows haven’t seen or touched snow before so there were smiles all around.

I can’t explain the sheer beauty of the Pyrenees mountains – it is like nothing I have ever seen before. Being able to share this experience with such a lovely group of people is a dream come true.

Here is a photo of the team walking back down the mountain through the snow.
