Running to Help the Community

Alcoa Fastening Systems (AFS) in Simi Valley, California, USA dashed at the chance to help students from low-income households purchase running shoes so they could participate on their high schools' cross country teams.
AFS presented a $1,500 small community grant to the New Basin Blues Running Club to finance the cost of the shoes. On a recent Saturday, the club and Alcoa hosted cross country teams from Reseda High School and Canoga Park High School for a run in the mountains followed by breakfast at the trailhead. During the day, more than 40 of the runners were fitted for quality footwear at a local shoe store, and all of the teenagers received Alcoa T-shirts.
