City Recognizes Alcoa Fastening Systems as they complete awarding $67,000 to local communities

On Friday December 12, 2006, Simi Valley City Manager, Mike Sedell, presented Alcoa Fastening Systems (AFS) a Certificate of Recognition in appreciation of their continued support through grant donations to organizations throughout Simi Valley on behalf of the Mayor and City Council at their annual Employee Recognition Luncheon.

At the luncheon, Kevin Casey, General Manager and Karen Harlan presented this year's final AFS/Alcoa Foundation grant checks totaling $23,000 to the Simi Valley Free Clinic, The Samaritan Center and the Arts in Education Aid Council bringing their combined 2006 annual community grant awards to $67,000.

In attendance at the luncheon was newly elected State Assemblyman Cameron Smyth (38th Assembly District) who spoke to the employees acknowledging their success in business and commending their exemplary ongoing efforts in support of the community.

Throughout the year AFS in partnership with the Alcoa Foundation has supported a variety of organizations including the Simi Valley Education Foundation, Boys and Girls Club, Cultural Arts Center, Police Foundation, Chamber of Commerce Leadership, Tony DiRaimondo Foundation, Amanda Foundation, Toys for Tots, The American Cancer Society and sponsored a prize for the City's Arbor Day poster contest for elementary school students.

In addition to the community financial support, the employees of AFS have volunteered their time to plant trees and improve the grounds at Lincoln Elementary School and the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church School. They have worked with the Basin Blues Running Club to put brand new running shoes on student athletes, who could otherwise not afford them. They have sponsored a Red Cross Community Blood drive for the third year in a row, had a food drive for the Valley Food Bank and currently are a Toys for Tots collection center for the holidays.
