Constructing a Dream
Alcoa Home Exteriors (AHE) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA donated vinyl siding, soffit and downspouts to the Lehigh Township Historical Society for a building it is renovating into a township museum, archive and meeting room. The historical society had planned to restore the building, which was an old trading post in a former park. However, a windstorm in late 2003 knocked down the last salvageable walls causing the group to lose its government restoration grants. Members of the group decided to reconstruct the building instead, making it as historically accurate as possible. That meant many fundraisers, though, to pay for the $50,000 project. “Alcoa certainly helped us to achieve our current position much sooner than we ever thought possible,” said Frank Mummey, vice-president of the historical society, in a thank you letter to AHE. “We greatly appreciated your time and interest in our extensive rehab project.”
