Janne Sigurdsson appointed Managing Director of Alcoa Fjardaál

Janne Sigurdsson, Production Manager, Alcoa Fjardaál, has been appointed Managing Director of the company effective 1st January 2012. Janne will replace Tómas Már Sigurdsson, who was recently appointed President, European Region and GPP Europe, located in Geneva, Switzerland. Furthermore, Magnús Thór Ásmundsson, General Process Owner and Rod Shop Manager, Alcoa Fjardaál, replaces Tómas Már as Country Manager for Alcoa in Iceland.

Janne was born in Aalborg, Denmark, in 1966. She has a Cand. Scient. degree in mathematics and computer science from the University in Aalborg. Since her graduation she has acquired wide-ranging management experience in various companies in Denmark and Alcoa Fjardaál in Reydarfjördur, which she joined in May 2006 as IT Manager. A few months later she assumed the position of General Process Owner. In 2008, she stepped into the position of Potroom Manager, and in the spring of 2010 she was appointed Production Manager.
 
Janne is married to Magnús Sigurdsson, master mason from Eskifjördur where they live, along with their two children, Tenna and Víkingur.
 
Magnús Thór Ásmundsson has a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Iceland and an M.Sc. in the same subject from the Technical University of Denmark. He joined Fjardaál in 2009 and has attained extensive experience in production and process development. His former responsibilities include the deployment of control systems, improvement plans for production processes and policy formulation for Fjardaál.
 
Magnús is on the board of the Technical College of Reykjavík and a member of the senate of Reykjavík University. He is married to beautician Soffia G. Brandsdóttir, and they have three children, Sunna María, Ásmundur Hrafn and Sveinbjörn Fródi. Magnús Thór will maintain his position as General Process Owner for Alcoa Fjardaál alongside with his new appointment as Country Manager.
