Comments must be submitted before June 14th

A joint Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) on account of the intended Bakki smelter project, power projects and power transmission lines was introduced in three public meetings held in North Iceland and one in Reykjavík in the beginning of May. Whereas the meeting in Húsavík attracted most visitors, around 70 people, the total number of visitors to all the meetings was over one hundred.

At the meetings, specialists went through the main issues of each initial EIA, that is, for the Krafla II Power Project, the Theistareykir Power Project, the Bakki smelter, power lines from the intended power stations to the intended smelter, and a joint EIA for the four projects.

The specialists presented each of the projects and responded to enquiries from the guests. Documents were distributed and wall posters provided graphical and statistical information.

The comment period for the initial EIAs expires on June 14th. The public can submit comments to the Planning Agency within that period.
