Over 30 Alcoa Fjardaál employees, spouses and children, participated in the Month of Service volunteer work on Saturday. The work included building a 26m long fence on the playground of the Dalborg Public Day Care Center in Eskifjördur, and picking up litter on the coast in the natural reserve land of Hólmaháls. More volunteer work will be done next Saturday.
Spirits were high among the volunteers who enjoyed nature in the stillness, in spite of the cold. The fencing went well, and afterwards all the volunteers gathered in the public hall in Eskifjördur to have pizza.
About fifty people then attended a meeting held by Alcoa Fjardaál for NGOs in East-Iceland to introduce the company’s strategy for community grants and volunteer work. The volunteer work includes two programmes, ACTION and Bravo!, supported by Alcoa. According to Erna, the meeting was lively and informative. “Many good ideas were sparked at the meeting,” Erna says, pleased with the outcome.
These Alcoa Fjardaál activities are part of Alcoa Corporation’s community contribution worldwide. Approximately 25,000 people in 200 of Alcoa’s business units in various countries participate in diverse volunteer projects.
