Alcoa and Landsvirkjun to begin formal negotiations on purchase of energy
Alcoa and Landsvirkjun will be starting formal discussions on purchase of energy for a smelter at Bakki, N-Iceland. The aim is to conclude discussions before the end of next year.

Alcoa and Landsvirkjun announce collaboration on deep drilling at Krafla
Alcoa and Landsvirkjun signed an agreement yesterday on Alcoa supporting the first borehole of the Icelandic Deep Drilling Project, to be drilled at the Krafla caldera in NE Iceland.

MOU extended regarding aluminum smelter at Bakki by Husavík
Representatives of Alcoa, the Government of Iceland and the municipality of Nordurthing, North Iceland, today extended until 1 October 2009 their memorandum of understanding on a feasibility study for the proposed smelter at Bakki, Husavík. The MOU that was now signed is an extended and updated version of the MOU signed by these parties in May 2006.

150 Women for Refreshments
On 19 June, Alcoa Fjardaál invited women to pink refreshments. This was in celebration of women's suffrage in Iceland, which was achieved on June 19th, 1915. The celebration was a great success, with between 150 and 160 women of widely varying ages and from the entire region taking advantage of the invitation.
