Two members of Alcoa’s EHS team, Patrick Grover, Senior Environmental Project Manager, and Maria Mickle, Health and Safety Coordinator, traveled from the United States this week to visit Verkmenntaskóli Austurlands (VA), a vocational college in Neskaupsstadur. The purpose of their visit was to introduce Alcoa’s environmental, health and safety (EHS) systems to students attending a course on aluminium production at the college. For three days, 6-8 December, students got to know some of the world class performance expectations that Alcoa has set for the new Fjarðaál smelter, consistent with its vision to be the best company in the world. Alcoa draws on its worldwide experience to share knowledge with people in the communities near its locations, in order to raise their own and their family’s awareness of environmental, health and safety issues.
