Alcoa Fjardaál: setting a new standard in aluminum production


In June 2007, Alcoa officially opened Fjardaál ("aluminum of the fjords"), an aluminum smelter at Reydarfjordur in Eastern Iceland. This project is Alcoa's first new primary aluminum facility in 20 years.

Almost Fluoride concentration in grass near the Alcoa Fjardaál smelter temporarily increased

5 October 2012 The outcome of annual sampling of grass in the vicinity of the Alcoa Fjardaál smelter in Reydarfjördur, which was presented to the company on Monday, shows that the fluoride concentration is higher this year than it has been for the past few years.



Almost three thousand guests celebrated Alcoa Fjardaál’s anniversary

27 August 2012 Almost three thousand people attended a festival at the  Alcoa Fjardaál site in Reydarfjordur, Iceland, when the company celebrated the five year anniversary of the smelter on Sunday, August 26th.



Successful Community Day in East Iceland

31 May 2012 For the first time, in collaboration with Alcoa Fjardaál, three East Iceland communities held a Community Day to encourage people to get together and serve their community with volunteer work for one day.



Minister visits the Alcoa Fjardaál smelter

11 May 2012 Oddný G. Hardardóttir, Minister of Finance and appointed Minister of Industry visited Alcoa Fjardaál with her assistant, Gunnar Tryggvason.
