Average salary highest in East Iceland

The number of residents in Fjardabyggd municipality has grown by 19% between the years of 2002 and 2008. The average salary has, during this period, been higher in East Iceland than any other area outside the capital area.

Alcoa not involved in currency speculation

Alcoa in Iceland has offered to move all its trade with Icelandic kronas to Iceland. The company has never been involved in any kind of currency speculation with the krona, according to a statement that has been sent to the Icelandic media.

Alcoa Foundation grant to the East Iceland Occupational Rehabilitation Centre

The Alcoa Foundation has decided to grant the East Iceland Occupational Rehabilitation Centre with 70,000 US$ over a two-year period. Steinthór Thórdarson, HR Manager of Fjardaál, presented the the first part of the grant, 35,000 US$ to the Centre today.

National Theatre Festival's finale well attended

April 29, 2009
The finale of the National Theatre Festival – a grassroots project of the National Theatre's Education Department and the Cultural Centre of Fljotsdalsherad District – was held in Egilsstadir last weekend. The Alcoa Foundation is one of the project's supporters. About 200 youths from all over East Iceland performed at the festival, and the attendance exceeded all expectations.

Popular summer jobs in the Alcoa Fjardaál smelter

More than 550 applications were received for advertised summer jobs in the Alcoa Fjardaál smelter in Reydarfjordur, East Iceland. The company will hire 60 people for temporary jobs in production and some tradesman positions. The deadline for applications was April 14th and hiring will take place during the next few weeks.

Alcoa Announces Successful Pricing on Common Stock and Convertible Debt Offerings

Alcoa Inc. today announced that it has successfully priced its public offerings of common stock and convertible notes. The offerings were made pursuant to the Company's registration statement and prospectuses filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Total proceeds from the offerings are approximately $1.3 billion.

Alcoa Fjardaál signs sponsor agreement for UMFÍ National Competition in July 2009

Co-operation agreements were signed today between the Icelandic Youth Association (UMFÍ) and five companies regarding the 26th UMFÍ Annual Competition held in Akureyri 9-12 July this summer. The main sponsors of the National Competition are Alcoa Fjardaál and KEA.

Alcoa smelter in Bakki, North-Iceland? EIA in progress


Alcoa, together with Landsvirkjun, Theistareykir and Landsnet, is now presenting a draft scoping proposal for a joint Environmental Impact Assessment for Bakki aluminum plant, powerproduction in Krafla II and Theistareykir and transmission lines.

Alcoa Fjarðaál receives the 2008 Gender Equality Award




In October, 2008, Iceland's Minister of Social Affairs presented Tómas Már Sigurdsson, on behalf of Alcoa Fjardaál, with the 2008 Gender Equality Award. The annual award is granted by the Gender Equality Council in Iceland for outstanding work in the field of gender equality.

Alcoa Fjarðaál: setting a new standard in aluminum production




In June 2007, Alcoa officially opened Fjarðaál ("aluminum of the fjords"), an aluminum smelter at Reydarfjordur in Eastern Iceland. This project is Alcoa's first new primary aluminum facility in 20 years.
