Important recognition of ICE-SAR: A grant from the Alcoa Foundation

The Alcoa Foundation has decided to support ICE-SAR rescue teams in East Iceland with a two-year grant of 100,000 US$. The grant will be a founding contribution for the East-Iceland Rescue Teams Education and Training Fund.

Like twinkling stars

More than two hundred elementary school students in East Iceland have been presented with reflector vests by Alcoa Fjardaál, VÍS Insurance and the police. They resemble twinkling stars when they walk around in their vests during the short days of the Icelandic winter.

Alcoa Finishes 4Q 2009 Strong; Free Cash Flow Positive, Revenues Up 18%

Alcoa yesterday announced it finished its fourth quarter 2009 free cash flow positive, the first such quarterly achievement since the second quarter of 2008 when the economic downturn began to impact results. The Company is ahead of its key financial goals for 2009, including being free cash flow neutral by the end of the year.

Alcoa Fjardaál: setting a new standard in aluminum production




In June 2007, Alcoa officially opened Fjardaál ("aluminum of the fjords"), an aluminum smelter at Reydarfjordur in Eastern Iceland. This project is Alcoa's first new primary aluminum facility in 20 years.

Alcoa smelter in Bakki, North-Iceland? EIA in progress


Alcoa, together with Landsvirkjun, Theistareykir and Landsnet, is now presenting a draft scoping proposal for a joint Environmental Impact Assessment for Bakki aluminum plant, powerproduction in Krafla II and Theistareykir and transmission lines.

Alcoa Fjarðaál receives the 2008 Gender Equality Award




In October, 2008, Iceland's Minister of Social Affairs presented Tómas Már Sigurdsson, on behalf of Alcoa Fjardaál, with the 2008 Gender Equality Award. The annual award is granted by the Gender Equality Council in Iceland for outstanding work in the field of gender equality.
