Michael T. (Mike) Barriere
Executive Vice President
Human Resources and Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability

Mike Barriere was promoted to an Alcoa executive vice president in August 2013 and has oversight for the Company's Human Resources and Environment, Health & Safety and Sustainability functions.  He is also a member of the Alcoa Executive Council, the senior leadership group that sets corporate policy.

Mike joined Alcoa as Chief Talent Officer in 2011 and was promoted to Vice President Human Resources a year later.  Prior to Alcoa, he held executive human resource positions for New York Life Insurance and Citigroup.  As senior vice president, Human Resources at New York Life Insurance, Mike established HR centers of expertise in Talent Management, Recruiting, Diversity and Compensation.  During the six years he worked at Citigroup, Mike led a global HR team covering Citigroup businesses in Asia, Europe, Latin America and the U.S.  For several years starting in 1995, Mike had his own consultancy business providing corporate clients, including PepsiCo and AT&T, with training evaluation and leadership development processes. 

Earlier in his career, Mike was a system design engineer for Grumman Aerospace Corporation and a research scientist at Brookhaven National Laboratory in its Human Factors and Performance Analysis Group.  His work at Brookhaven and his PhD research in industrial psychology both focused on human performance, safety culture and human error reduction in industrial environments.  He also served an assistant professor of Organizational Psychology at Hofstra University from 1997-2002.

Mike earned an MBA degree from The Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania, and a PhD in industrial psychology and bachelor’s degree in Engineering Science from Hofstra University.

Mike and his wife, Renee, live in Smithtown, New York.
