Rick Bowen
President, Energy

Rick Bowen joined Alcoa in March 2009 as President, Energy with overall responsibility for developing and executing Alcoa’s energy strategy.  He leads the corporation’s worldwide energy workforce, drives energy efficiency, and manages Alcoa’s global energy assets.  In recent years, Alcoa has strengthened its energy investment and expanded ownership in hydro assets in Brazil, upgraded those in the U.S. and renewed critical power contracts, all essential to maintain a competitive position in the aluminum industry. 
Rick has extensive experience in energy generation and sourcing having most recently served as President, Generation and Btu Conversion for Peabody Energy, based in St. Louis.  In this position, he was accountable for overall management of Peabody’s generation development activities, including the development of major power projects.  He joined Peabody in 2004 after having a highly successful 18 year career with Dynegy Inc. that included assignments in engineering, power development and corporate development.  His last position at Dynegy was Executive Vice President Commercial Asset Management and Trading, where he managed all of Dynegy’s generation and trading functions. 
Rick began his career at independent power producer Destec, a subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company that eventually was acquired by NGC Corporation to form Dynegy Inc.  At Destec, he served as Manager of Acquisitions followed by an assignment as Managing Director of Destec Power Services.  He then progressed to Senior Vice President of Business Development responsible for activities in the Americas and the interface between Destec and Dow on energy issues. 
Rick earned an MBA and bachelor’s degree both in Finance from the University of Houston.  He is an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association and is a member of the CERTS Industry Advisory Board.  Rick was born in El Paso, Texas, in February 1955.
