Communicate Expectations
Communicating our expectations to our suppliers is a critical component of our program. Some of the ways we communicate these expectations includes:
- Supplier Standards document
- Contractual language within our standard terms and conditions
Supplier Standards
As a part of Alcoa's continuing commitment to sustainable business practices, we are dedicated to working in partnership with our suppliers to follow our Supplier Standards.
Alcoa's Supplier Standards set forth:
- Alcoa's commitment to environmental, social and economic practices.
- Alcoa's expectations of suppliers, contractors and others with whom we conduct business (collectively referred to as "Suppliers") with respect to sound and responsible environmental, social and economic practices.
We recognize that there are different legal and cultural environments in which Suppliers operate throughout the world. These standards set forth the minimum requirements that Suppliers must meet to do business with us. In order to comply with these requirements, Suppliers should communicate the principles of these standards throughout their supply chain.
We expect and trust that you will honor the environmental, social and economic principles and practices stated in Alcoa's Supplier Standards.
Assess Suppliers
As a part of Alcoa’s continuing commitment to Sustainability, we periodically assess our suppliers’ maturity level. Alcoa has selected EcoVadis to simplify collaboration with our trading partners in order to assess sustainability / Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) performance worldwide.
We rely on EcoVadis’ CSR expertise to produce ratings and detailed scorecards that make it easy for both of us to understand your CSR performance, and to work together if any improvements are needed.
As an internationally recognized standard, EcoVadis ratings provide global benchmarks, which are essential for measuring and improving the performance of our global value chain. The EcoVadis Rating is based on an evidence-based assessment, adapted to hundreds of business categories, takes into account relevant industry labels and certifications as well as local laws in 150 countries, and is aligned with global standards like the UN Global Compact.
Current suppliers should contact Alcoa for further information concerning the questionnaire.

Educate Supplier
Areas of opportunity are identified through the EcoVadis self-assessment. The final scorecard each supplier receives give a photograph that reflects the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) performance at the time of publication. Additionally, it indicates in detail the improvement areas for the company to work on, in order to improve their company’s performance. Using this solution, Alcoa can offer all assessed companies access to an online corrective action plan feature, which enables to partners to build improvement plans online and communicate planned and completed corrective actions in order to improve the performance and commitment to CSR. Alcoa is also able give feedback for our trading partners when we believe a corrective action plan is required.
