Aluminum is one of the most sustainable materials in the world. It is infinitely recyclable and its re-use is easy and economical. Using aluminum makes consumer products lighter, helping to reduce emissions produced during transportation. And aluminum can save energy by more effectively managing heat in mobile devices. Because of its higher value, aluminum is more likely to be recycled and used again than other materials.
For consumer electronics customers, Alcoa is producing 25% recycled content sheet that is 20% lower in CO2 emissions. Aluminum is also actively replacing magnesium in cell phones and laptops, reducing emissions up to 50%.
Consumer Electronics is the fastest growing waste stream in the world. Through its partnership with Electronic Recyclers International (ERI), Alcoa is able to promote recycling and to help create the infrastructure for recapturing and re-using aluminum from e-waste.
