Alcoa shares its world-renowned environmental expertise

Alcoa of Australia’s world-renowned environmental rehabilitation work continues to attract international visitors looking to learn from the company.

Enviro
Alcoa Environmental Improvement Specialist, Cameron Richardson, shares insights on Alcoa’s approach to forest rehabilitation with Bhutanese government officials.

Alcoa recently hosted a delegation of Bhutanese government geology and mining officials who were advised by the World Bank to visit Australia for best practice examples of re-establishing forest ecosystems.

Earlier this year, Alcoa’s expertise was also shared with a study group of 30 officials from the Chinese Ministry of Forestry touring Western Australian operations to better understand reforestation and rehabilitation initiatives.

Alcoa Mine Sustainability Manager, Dr Andrew Grigg, said Alcoa was highly regarded all over the world for its environmental excellence and visitors were keen to learn from the company’s successful management of reforestation, rehabilitation processes, minesite fauna research and sustainability initiatives.

“We are always pleased to welcome international visitors and share our experiences and knowledge with them so that we can contribute to the understanding of better and more sustainable practices around the world,” Dr Grigg said.

He said Alcoa was listed on the United Nations Global 500 Roll of Honour and had been endorsed for its commitment to continuous environmental improvement by international biodiversity conservationist Professor Thomas Lovejoy who described Alcoa’s rehabilitation as a model for the mining industry when he toured the bauxite mining operations last year.
