Pinjarra celebrates WA Day with first ever WA Day music concert

Alcoa Pinjarra WA Day Concert Flyer-PosterPinjarra locals will be dancing all evening when the town comes alive with the very first FREE Alcoa Pinjarra WA Day Concert on Saturday June 1 from 4pm to 8pm at Edenvale Homestead.

Celebrating all things WA, the concert, hosted by the Shire of Murray, will feature an incredible West Aussie music line-up including Chain, Grace Barbe, Family Shoveller Band, Jack Runaway and Brooke Bugjea.

With four decades of albums and performances under their belt, smooth rockers Chain will bring their cool blues sound to the Alcoa Pinjarra WA Day Concert. The only blues band in the world to have a number one on the Australian charts (Black’n’Blue) as well as a number two (Judgement), the band is sure to get festival goers up and dancing.

Hailing from the Seychelles, Grace Barbe and her band bring an international element to the Alcoa Pinjarra WA Day Concert. Sure to make attendees get up on their feet – the now Perth local – fuses traditional beats and rhythms with pop, reggae and psychedelic rock creating a truly unique sound.

Another true-blue group entertaining concert goers is The Family Shoveller Band, who through a fusion of pop and contemporary rock tell stories of the Karajarri culture.

Jack Runaway, fueled by a sense of nostalgia, shares familiar themes in a swirl of melodies and tones that cut across genres. The band funnels life experience into every song and taps into a place of raw emotion from memories, current day happenings, and everything in between.

Eighteen-year-old and Pinjarra High School graduate, Brooke Bugeja will represent the local music scene, bringing her soulful music to the Main Stage. The Voice contestant who has only been playing music for a short time will play a mix of covers and originals.

In the spirit of celebrating the best of local produce and all things WA, Thorny Devil, a true contender in the craft-beer world, will have drinks flowing all evening. Foodies will also be spoilt for choice by the variety of food on offer from over twenty-five street food vendors showcasing a variety of local and international cuisines.

Festival goers will also enjoy a variety of market stalls, which will highlight the best of local produce, products and community groups.

Celebrate WA Chairman Michael Anghie said WA Day has brought West Australians together to celebrate all the fantastic things about the State.

“As Western Australians we have so much to be proud of. Across the world we’re celebrated for our can-do attitude, our entrepreneurship, our good humour, hard work and our sense of community - all things that Western Australian’s are proud to live by. This WA Day I hope everyone in the community comes together to celebrate everything that makes us and our State great,” he said.

Alcoa Chairman and Managing Director, Michael Parker said the company was delighted to be able to support the first Alcoa Pinjarra WA Day Concert, an event that would bring people from across the community together.

“We are particularly proud to bring this event to one of our host communities. It is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate what it means to live, work and play in this beautiful part of WA, and we hope people from far and wide will come along to enjoy the local talent on show,” Mr Parker said.

According to Shire President Cr. David Bolt, the Shire of Murray is proud to host the region’s first WA Day concert, which enhances its LiveLighter Pinjarra Festival celebrations.

“Pinjarra’s vibrancy and eclectricity will provide the ideal backdrop for celebrating our Western Australian way of life,” Cr. Bolt said.

Those unable to make it to the Alcoa Pinjarra WA Day Concert are invited to join the fun at nine additional events around the state including Burswood Park, Fremantle, Bunbury, Albany, Kalgoorlie, Geraldton, Newman, Port Hedland and Onslow.
