Environmental assessments open for public comment

The 12-week public comment period is open for our two environmental assessments with the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA).

The first assessment relates to our 2020 proactive referral of the proposal to transition the Huntly Bauxite Mine to new areas and increase alumina production at the Pinjarra refinery by five per cent.

Parts of our previous and current mining operations are also being assessed to determine the environmental acceptability of these operations.

We have a range of ways for you to better understand our mining operations and the two assessments.

You can find out more on our website  with fact sheets on key topics.

If you are in the area, we offer free guided tours of our bauxite mines and alumina refineries. Bookings are essential – see our booking page for more information or contact us on (08) 9530 2400 or tourcentre@alcoa.com.

We also have pop-up offices in Jarrahdale and Dwellingup for the local community and visitors alike.

You may also wish to make a submission to the EPA via its online Public Consultation Hub before the public comment period closes on Thursday, 21 August 2025.
