Alcoa to Continue Extensive Public Consultations on Environmental and Social Impact Assessment with Open Houses at Chatham and Port of Spain

November 15, 2006—Alcoa today announced that two public open house sessions have been scheduled to provide information about the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment study currently underway for the company's proposed smelter project in the Cap-de-Ville area in southwestern Trinidad.

Alcoa and independent study consultant Environmental Resources Management (ERM) will have subject-matter experts in attendance to provide information about the project design and plans for conducting the assessment, which will study the environmental and social aspects of this project. They will also be available to respond to questions and comments from attendees.

The sessions will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the following locations:
  • Tuesday 28 November 2006
    Chatham Youth Centre
  • Wednesday 29 November 2006
    St. John's Ambulance Hall,
    Port of Spain

The two open house sessions are part of the extensive public consultation required before the completion and submission of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment report to the Environmental Management Authority (EMA). Following submission, the EMA will circulate the report for public review before making a decision on whether to grant a Certificate of Environmental Clearance for the proposed smelter.
