Alcoa, Tenn. -- Alcoa Rigid Packaging (RPD) President Robert S. Wetherbee has announced the appointment of Malcolm Murphy as location manager of Tennessee Operations’ Rigid Packaging Division.
Murphy comes from Alcoa Australia Rolled Products located in Yennora, New South Wales where he served as plant manager. Alcoa Australia Rolled Products manufactures aluminum can sheet, for the production of beverage cans, aluminum foil, and common alloy sheet and coil. Murphy has been with Alcoa for 16 years, and has held the position as Yennora’s plant manager for the past 2 ½ years. Of interesting note, Murphy has worked with more than 45 different nationalities while at the Yennora plant. Murphy will transition to Tennessee Operations in early July, 2005 and will report to Wetherbee.
Also announced by Wetherbee was the appointment of Ken McMillen to a newly created role of operations manager for Tennessee Operations’ Rigid Packaging Division. A 12-year veteran of Alcoa, McMillen previously served as RPD’s interim general manager at Tennessee Operations, manager of Ingot can reclamation, and railroad manager. In his new role, McMillen will provide alignment and leadership to the Tennessee RPD manufacturing operations -- Ingot, can reclamation, railroads, finishing, rolling, and planning. McMillen will report to Murphy.

Alcoa’s Tennessee Operations is the world's largest producer of rolled aluminum can sheet for beverage cans. It has been in operation in Blount County, Tenn., since 1910 and currently employs 1,900 East Tennesseans. Tennessee Operations is one of 350 Alcoa Inc. operating locations in 43 countries.
