Ijams honors Alcoa Foundation with Spirit Award

Ijams Nature Center recently honored Alcoa Foundation for its long standing commitment to Ijams and the environment at its 24th annual Symphony in the Park event.

Symphony in the Park is a unique and elegant outdoor event on the beautiful grounds of Ijams Nature Center.  More than 450 guests were on hand to enjoy a auction, a delicious meal, and entertainment performed by Maestro Lucas Richman and the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra. During the evening, a special presentation of the Ijams Spirit award was made to Alcoa Foundation and accepted by Alcoa location manager, Chris Jackson (pictured).

Alcoa Foundation is one of the largest corporate foundations in the U.S. and is committed "to helping communities, building partnerships, changing lives". Alcoa Foundation actively invests in the quality of life in Alcoa communities worldwide, with a special focus on the field of conservation and sustainability.

During the past decade, Alcoa Foundation has invested significantly in Ijams Nature Center. Alcoa Foundation was a major contributor in restoring the historic Mead's Quarry site, which when it opened in 2005 added an additional 80-acres to the wildlife sanctuary.

Since 2006, Alcoa Foundation has helped underwrite Ijams' signature "Go Green" initiative - Living Clean & Green, a series of environmental programs and workshops designed to help make our community cleaner, greener, and more sustainable. The initiative focuses on recycling.

Ijams Nature Center sincerely thanks Alcoa Foundation for allowing Ijams to fulfill its mission of quality environmental educations programs and outdoor experiences throughout the region.
