Alcoa Tennessee Operations
Profile
Tennessee Operations Smelter

Tennessee Operations is dedicated solely to the production of molten metal and aluminum sheet for beverage cans. It is one of the most modern aluminum fabricating facilities in the world and is home to two of ALCOA’s business units — Primary Metals and the Rigid Packaging Division. Located in the City of Alcoa, the plant occupies 1600 acres, with 160 acres under roof.

Tennessee Operations’ smelting plant can produce more than 1.3 million pounds of molten metal each day.  The plant produces ingots for rolling which can be up to 30 feet long and weigh 32,000 pounds each.  The ingots are then rolled in to sheet that is used for beverage cans.

Over the years, Tennessee Operations has made more than 1,000 products for the construction, aerospace, military, farm, boat-building, consumer and highway industries.
