About Hydroelectric Project
The Tapoco Project is a four-development hydroelectric project located in eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina. The Tapoco Project is owned and operated by APGI (the Tapoco division), a subsidiary of Alcoa, and consists of four individual developments: Santeetlah, Cheoah, Calderwood and Chilhowee. Three of the dams, Cheoah, Calderwood and Chilhowee are located on the Little Tennessee River between two Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) hydroelectric projects: Fontana (upstream) and Tellico (downstream). The fourth dam, Santeetlah, is located on the Cheoah River, a tributary to the Little Tennessee River.
