Our regional sustainability approach is built upon three key pillars—financial success, social and environmental responsibility, and operating excellence—to ensure we deliver benefits to all of our stakeholders. These include shareholders, employees, customers, suppliers, and the communities where we operate.
Each of our locations has its own team dedicated to our sustainability strategy, which focuses on Alcoa’s global strategic sustainability targets.
Because we believe that partnerships are essential to expanding and developing our sustainability projects, we actively promote sustainability outside of our operations.
We participate in the Brazil Greenhouse Gas Protocol Program and have been awarded gold certification three years in a row for demonstrating the highest level of transparency in greenhouse gas inventories.
In 2013, we launched the Make an Impact project in partnership with the Akatu Institute. The program offers consumers a carbon-footprint calculator specifically customized for Brazil.
We also partner with non-governmental organizations and associations, including the Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS), Brazilian Aluminum Association (ABAL), Brazilian Fund for Biodiversity (Funbio), Sustainable Amazon Forum, Ethos Institute for Companies and Social Responsibility, and the Getulio Vargas Foundation’s (GVces) Center for Studies on Sustainability.
