Samara Metallurgical Plant Collaborates with City Administration to Facilitate Employment

Mikhail Spichak, Location Manager of Samara Metallurgical Plant, and Victor Tarkhov, Samara City Mayor, signed an agreement to develop agreed approaches for employment of people who experience difficulties with finding a job as a result of headcount reduction.

This agreement aims at sustainable dual communications on vacancies, community work opportunities, temporary employment, professional training and re-training.

Mikhail Spichak, Managing Director of Alcoa Russia, Location Manager of Samara Metallurgical plant, said: “This is a very important document for us. It has already become clear that it will be difficult even for large businesses to cope with the current financial crisis without support of local and regional authorities, not to mention small and medium businesses. Only collaboration will enable us to revive the economic and industrial growth of the region”.

Mikhail Spichak added that Alcoa Russia was about to finalize the restructuring plan to reduce the impact of the current economic crisis on the locations of the company in Samara and Belaya Kalitva.

“When developing the restructuring plan we initially reviewed options to reduce costs and to increase effectiveness through optimization of financial and operational initiatives in order to minimize the impact on the people. Meanwhile, we cannot avoid partial headcount reduction under the circumstances. The company intends to provide maximum support to the outplaced employees in the current condition. This agreement is one step in the direction”.

Mikhail Spichak emphasized that Alcoa came to Russia for a long term and will promote the development oа local production in Samara in site of the economic downturn.

“Our goal is to overcome the crisis and retain all the competitive advantages and a rich workforce potential of our locations for their further development. If we manage to do this now I have no doubt that Alcoa Russia locations will be among the most successful businesses in aluminum industry”.
