Alcoa Russia and Samara Metallurgical Plant continue a new community program intermediate technical vocational education

Samara – Samara Metallurgical Plant, Alcoa Russia, awarded Alcoa scholarships and the Best-in-EHS Alcoa premium awards to senior students of technical faculties of intermediate vocational education at Samara Metallurgical College as part of the Alcoa Intermediate Technical Vocational Education Support program for secondary vocational level of technical education.

In this program, Samara Metallurgical Plant partners with the State Educational Institution of Secondary Vocational Level “Samara Metallurgical College”.  The program is financed and implemented by Samara Metallurgical Plant, Alcoa Russia. The program is intended to support students of technical faculties of intermediate vocational education who achieve high results in their studies and professional skills, to improve image of working specialties and to attract young qualified working staff to industrial enterprises of Samara and Samara region.

This year, the program includes 10 Alcoa scholarships and 6 Alcoa ‘Best-in-EHS’ premium awards for senior students at the following technical specialties of intermediate vocational education: Installation and Operation of Industrial Equipment, Maintenance of Electrical Equipment, Casting Production (ferrous and no-ferrous metals), Metal Forming and Welding Engineering.

Alcoa awardees were selected by a selection committee by an open competition. The selection committee includes top teachers and leaders of Samara Metallurgical College, as well as representatives of Samara Metallurgical Plant, Alcoa Russia. During the selection process, students were evaluated based on their academic exam scores during the last two sessions, results in professional activities and answers to a questionnaire related to their future profession. Alcoa scholarships are appointed for a one-year period and amount 1,000 rubles per month.

Another important component of this program is the Alcoa ‘Best-in-EHS’ one-tine-only premium awards. These awards are provided to senior students of technical specialties of intermediate technical vocational educational level for their academic success on proper curriculum and special training courses and for high results during professional skill competitions (for crane operators and welders). Alcoa ‘Best-in-EHS’ premiums amount from 1,500 through 3,500 rubles one-time only.

All Alcoa scholars and award winners were awarded with special certificates of program winners.

This program financed by Samara Metallurgical Plant aims to contribute to the prestige of intermediate technical vocational education and create additional incentives for students who achieve high academic and professional successes.
