Vladimir Chub, Governor of Rostov Region, Met With Andrey Donets, Alcoa Russia President

Belaya Kalitva, Rostov Region – On July 30, 2009, Rostov Region Governor Vladimir Chub had a working meeting in the Administrative Hall of Rostov Region with Andrey Donets, Alcoa Russia President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of JSC Alcoa Metallurg Rus (Belaya Kalitva, Rostov Region).

Alcoa Russia initiated the meeting a month ago. As part of the preparations of the meeting, Alexander Noskov, Deputy Governor of Rostov Region for Economy, Foreign Trade, Economic Reforms, Energy, Engineering and Industry, visited Alcoa’s fabricating facility.
During the meeting in the Administrative Hall the parties discussed development opportunities of Belaya Kalitva Metallurgical plant, investments in production and infrastructure, as well as social programs of Alcoa in Russia and Rostov Region. They paid special attention to Alcoa’s anti-recessionary measures in human resources.

The largest aluminum corporation – Alcoa – first entered Belaya Kalitva in February 2005 having acquired from Russkiy Aluminiy the control stake in Belaya Kalitva Metallurgical Production Association (since 2007 it is named Alcoa Metallurg Rus). For four years Alcoa has invested about $127 million in the development and equipment upgrade of the plant. The funds were invested in improvement of thermally treated plates for aerospace and flat-rolled production. The facility completed a project for production of high-quality ingots for aerospace plates. Another project completed at Alcoa Metallurg Rus allowed the location to supply US and Canadian car-makers with forged wheels. These projects were completed without idling the facility – Alcoa made it possible through additional investments in the plant’s infrastructure.
