Support to Students’ Ecological Projects

Moscow – This year, eight school projects will be financed as part of Alcoa Foundation conservation and sustainability program “We are in Charge of the Future”. Project proposals were reviewed by the Advisory Committee of the Fund for Sustainable Development which manages the program. The projects will be implemented by the program participants from schools and NGOs in Belaya Kalitva (the Rostov region) and Samara. The total financing for these projects will amount to 1 200 347 rubles.

Alcoa Foundation and Alcoa Russia in partnership with the Fund for Sustainable Development started this program in 2006. It aims at involving middle school students into on-hands activities in nature conservation and sustainability and educating young people in environmental and social responsibility.
The projects from Belaya Kalitva will further improve the first ecological path in Belaya Kalitva, beautify school areas and rowing sites on the Belaya Kalitva river, and monitor the environmental conditions of streets and green zones of the town.
The projects where young ecologists from Samara will be involved aim at popularization of cultural and historical heritage through school mentoring activities in Samara regional preserved and natural monument areas including river- and spring monitoring projects, and beautification of the territory at an orphanage.
