British Standards Institute Expressed High Esteem of the Quality System of Alcoa Metallurg Rus

In late October British Standards Institute held an inspective quality system audit at Alcoa Metallurg Rus for compliance with international standards ISO 9001/AS 9100 for aerospace suppliers.

The auditors checked Casthouse, Flat-Rolled Products, Human Resources, Procurement, Stores, Quality Department, Railroad Transportation and Shipment Shop. The inspection concluded that the quality system continued improving, the interaction and responsibility of the process owners for the product quality enhanced in each technological operation.

The compliance of the location’s quality system with the requirements of ISO 9001/AS 9100 standards was rated at 94%, this result is 15% higher than in 2008. The auditors recommended to prolong the certification for 2010 and allow access for Alcoa Metallurg Rus to aerospace market.

According to Yury Diyakonov, Quality Director of Alcoa Metallurg Rus, compliance with ISO9001/AS9100 requirements is obligatory for suppliers of products and materials in aerospace and defense industries globally and on all levels of the supply chain. “Figuratively speaking this is an entry ticket to the market confirming that we can sign contracts with international aerospace producers. The location's certification and quality management system is about satisfying customers, obtaining competitive advantage and achieving results such as profit and market share”.
