On April 15th Oleg Kalinskiy, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Corporate Affairs Director, Alcoa Russia, took part in the session “Social Policy of the State and Practice of Companies Under the Economic Downturn†as part of Russian Business Week sponsored by Russian Council of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP).
The session was chaired by Alexander Zhukov, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, and attended by Tatiyana Golikova, Minister for Health and Social Development of Russia, and Alexander Shokhin, President of RSPP.
In his presentation during the second part of the session dedicated to the social policy of corporations under the economic downturn Oleg Kalinskiy spoke about the impact of the downturn on Alcoa and the company’s response to it. He emphasized that the restructuring of the Russian branch is aimed at preserving competitive advantages, workforce potential and the production facilities for their further development. The key part of this work is a balanced and socially responsible approach. During the year Alcoa Russia intends to cooperate with Employment Centers in Samara and Belaya Kalitva, the cities where Alcoa operates its fabricating facilities, in order to provide consultations, retraining and legal services to the laid-off workforce. The company has signed an agreement with the Samara City Hall to cooperate on redemployment of the employees laid off at the Samara metallurgical plant. According to Oleg Kalinskiy, all the actions of Alcoa Russia under the restructuring plan are discussed openly and honestly with the trade unions, regional authorities and employees. Only such approach ensures trustful relations between the company, its community and employees. Oleg Kalinskiy also highly estimated RSPP actions on coordination of this work on the federal level.
