Samara Expansion Opens New Markets

A new coil coating line currently being installed at Alcoa’s Samara (Russia) plant will allow the plant to drastically expand its range of rolled coil products, including producing coated aluminum coil for the food industryWhen fully commissioned in late 2008, the new line will primarily be used for producing aluminum coils for beverage cans, ends and tabs, and meat and fish cans.

Vladimir Samonin, Samara Metallurgical Plant FRP Director, says: “The coated coil fully meets the stringent GOST requirements applicable to products used in the food industry. Samara will become the first Russian company capable of large-scale manufacturing of the entire range of coil for can, can tabs and ends. This will enable us to expand the range of rolled coil products, thus increasing sales and expanding the market geography, as our coil coating line is the only Alcoa asset of such kind in Europe producing coated aluminum coil for the food industry.”
