Alcoa Foundation Programs in Russia
In Russia Alcoa Foundation Programs are aimed at development, education and protection of the youth. These programs are implemented in the communities where Alcoa operates – Samara, the Rostov Region, Moscow. Since 2005, Alcoa Foundation has invested about USD 2.3 million in Russia.
Technical Education Program
Program Goals:
- help partner universities retain their best students and young faculty;
- promote students’ academic success and research work;
- improve the unvirsities’ technical capabilities;
- promote the prestige of technical education
Program Components:
- undergraduate student scholarships;
- young faculty development stipends;
- modernization of auditoriums
Partners in the Program:
- Samara State Aerospace Universtity (SGAU);
- Don State Technical University (DGTU), Rostov-on-Don;
- Moscow Steel and Alloy Institute (MISiS)
Conservation & Sustainability Program for Secondary Schools
Program Goals
- promote students’ education in conservation and sustainability;
- promote students’ participation in addressing issues in their communities
Program Components
- seminars and master-classes for teachers and students in partner schools;
- grants to schools to implememt community projects in conservation & sustainability;
- ecological camps;
- Involvement in all-Russia network of young ecologists;
- on-line resources for participants, including information exchanges with other regions in Russia
Partners
- secondary schools in Samara (Kirovsky District) and Belaya Kalitva, Rostov Region;
- environmental youth organizations;
- NGOs in conservation and sustainability.
Cardiac Care Program for Children “From Heart to Heart”
Program Goals
- assist in the development of a pediatric cardiac centre of excellence in Samara capable of perfoming up to 250 surgeries on kids with congenital heart defects
Components
- diagnostic and interventional techniques
- open-heart surgeries, including “demonstration” ones
- training for Samara doctors

- Heart to Heart International Childrens’ Medical Alliance (USA)
- Health Ministry of the Samara Region;
- Samara Regional Cardiac Hospital.
