We Need to Boost Recycling Rates
The U.S. is the world's biggest consumer of aluminum cans, but lags behind other industrialized nations in the percentage of these cans that we recycle. Alcoa has a goal to help the U.S. raise its recycling rate for aluminum beverage cans to 75% by 2015. This would put our country above the current global average and rank it among the top recycling countries. We can get there if we all make a commitment to recycle just one more can per week!  Open a graphical depiction of world recycling rates

For each pound of aluminum recycled, Americans save the energy resources needed to generate about 7 kilowatt-hours of electricity -- enough to power the average home for six hours.
