MAKE AN IMPACT

Climate change is arguably the most critical sustainability issue of our time. Its effects are being felt around the corner and around the world. And to make a real difference we all need to take action - on all fronts and at all levels, individually and together.
In response, Alcoa and the Pew Center on Global Climate Change have formed a unique new partnership – harnessing their own resources to develop the tools enabling others to act, in their homes and in their communities - to make an impact.
As a business, Alcoa has taken a global leadership position on addressing climate change inside our operations, across our industry and within our communities.
And the product we make is playing a key role – as a light, endlessly recyclable metal, aluminum is decreasing fossil fuel consumption across the transport industry and reducing energy consumption in primary metal production.
The environmental achievements we have made in our own business have been made possible through energy efficiency, productivity improvements, technological innovation and successful partnerships.
But most importantly, they have been made possible by the commitment, dedication and skill of our 97,000 employees around the world.
And their commitment to a sustainable future has the potential to build capacity.
We believe that by working together, real outcomes on climate change can be achieved.
By providing our employees and local communities the tools and knowledge to manage their individual environmental impact in their corner of the world, we support them in being part of the solution to global climate change.
Because individually we can make a difference. But together we can Make an Impact.
MAKE AN IMPACT
Growing concern around the environmental impacts of climate change and rising energy costs has prompted many of our employees and neighbors to question what they can do to take action.
In response, Alcoa Foundation and the Pew Center on Global Climate Change have partnered on Make an Impact - a unique community focused project aimed at raising awareness and mobilizing action on climate change in Alcoa communities.
Modeled on the project developed in Australia in 2006 by Alcoa, Alcoa Foundation and Greening Australia, Make an Impact will provide the tools and resources for Alcoa employees, their families and local community to understand and manage their individual greenhouse footprint.
The program features:
- Dynamic website with tips, tools and resources on how to reduce energy bills and live more sustainably;
- Custom-built carbon calculator featuring best practice individual carbon ‘footprint’ analysis and action planning;
- Comprehensive outreach program of educational workshops and hands-on activities to support local action and encourage sustainable change.
Save Energy, Save Money, Save The Planet
A program to help you “save energy, save money, save the planet” is coming to your location and we are seeking your help to kick-off the program…!
Take a fun photo of yourself (can include family members/friends) making a positive environmental impact and send it to the email address MakeAnImpact@pewclimate.org.
The photo should feature a white page with three words that help tell your story.
The page can be as creatively displayed as you wish and you may use props so long as the picture is of you outside of the workplace. Here’s some inspiration from others…
