Volunteers make a difference in the classroom

The 11-year partnership between Alcoa Howmet, Whitehall, Michigan, and Ealy Elementary School, contributed to the hometown school's earning a state of Michigan 2008 Education Excellence Award for "Improving Student Achievement in Math and Science."

Alcoa Howmet in Whitehall, Michigan presented a $150,000 check from the Alcoa Foundation to REsources for Authentic Learning in Science (REAL Science) to jump start a program aimed at fostering an interest among high school students in math and science careers.
